Clemson football lands Top 100 recruit, son of former Falcons star

The Clemson football program gets a huge commitment in four-star linebacker Jamal Anderson, the namesake son of the Atlanta Falcons’ legendary running back.

Jamal Anderson has decided to commit to Dabo Swinney’s Clemson football program for 2023.

Anderson is the namesake son of the legendary Atlanta Falcons running back. He may be the son of Mr. Dirty Bird, but the four-star linebacker from suburban Atlanta picked the Tigers over his father’s alma mater over in Salt Lake. Anderson visited Clemson on June 3 and just recently came back from paying Kyle Whittingham’s Utah program a visit. He has chosen to play closer to home.

As with everything, nothing is official until On3’s Hayes Fawcett tweets out a sweet graphic.

Clemson football program lands top 100 commitment from LB Jamal Anderson

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Anderson is the No. 11 linebacker in the country, the No. 17 player from talent-rich Georgia and the No. 173 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He had 34 official offers, but was looking predominantly at five teams: Clemson, Florida, Michigan State, Penn State and Utah. This is a huge upside towards Clemson finally doing summer officials.

Clemson typically does things in an incredibly traditional manner under Swinney, but times they are a-changing. With the dawn of NIL and the transfer portal, Clemson must adapt or die, especially with Miami making a firm commitment to football after prying former Canes offensive lineman Mario Cristobal away from West Coast power Oregon. Landing Anderson is a massive get.

While long-time defensive coordinator Brent Venables is running the show in Norman, Clemson has made a name for itself defensively with great play in the front seven. It has allowed them to compete for national titles with an SEC roster that plays an ACC schedule. Though Georgia may not have been all that interested in Anderson, he goes right up the road to another juggernaut.

Without question, Anderson’s commitment to Clemson is one that will certainly move the needle.
